Global Citizenship Tour: Exploring World Peace and the SDGs in Nagasaki

A study of peace and sustainability: From reflecting on the legacy of peace in Nagasaki, the second city to endure an atomic bombing, to exploring the future of sustainable energy in the Goto Islands.
City and Tour Highlights

■Nagasaki City
Nagasaki’s experience as the second city to suffer an atomic bombing (August 9, 1945) is often framed through the lens of “The Last Atomic Bombing.
While Hiroshima is often the first city people visit, Nagasaki’s story is distinct because of its topography, its vibrant Christian history, and its emphasis on “Prayer” alongside “Peace”.

– Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum
This museum exhibits that tell a story including the devastation of the atomic bombing the process and the history of nuclear weapons development.
It also honors the 2024 Nobel Peace Prize awarded to Nihon Hidankyo(the grassroots movement of atomic bomb survivors).
Our package includes a rare opportunity to hear a Hibakusha’s firsthand testimony, a life-changing encounter that transforms historical facts into a deeply personal emotional journey.
– Nagasaki Peace Park & Statue
The 9.7-meter statue’s right hand points to the threat of nuclear weapons, while its left hand is extended in a gesture of peace.
The Fountain of Peace nearby is particularly moving, built to provide water for the souls of those who died searching for it in the heat of the blast.

■Goto City
Goto City stands on a group of outlying islands that are part of Nagasaki Prefecture.
These charming islands offer harmony between the natural world and history, with their stunning sea and white sandy beaches, fun experiences in all four seasons, including fishing and marine sports, cycling, and trekking, and World Heritage churches.
Visitors can also savor delicious gourmet food, such as fresh sashimi, Goto udon, and Goto Beef.

– Commercial Floating Offshore Wind Power Farm Tour
Established in 2016 as Japan’s first commercial floating offshore wind farm, “Haenkaze” is drawing international interest for its innovative technology that enables power generation in deep-sea areas far offshore.
You can learn all about how this pioneering facility actually works on the tour.
– GOTOGIN (Goto Tsubaki Distillery) ※Sunday is Closed
The Goto Tsubaki Distillery has transformed into Japan’s first distillery to operate on 100% renewable energy, achieving net-zero CO2 emissions.
By replacing gas boilers with electric ones, the facility now relies entirely on local renewable sources, such as offshore wind and solar power from Goto City.
Additionally, all delivery vehicles have been switched to electric vehicles (EVs).
